"…just came…..out of nowhere….cured EVOs…blood." Voices trailed into my head as I slowly
regained consciousness. Bright lights filled my vision as I awoke to find myself in a
bed in Dr. Holiday's lab. I was laying down on a lab table with metal cuffs securing me
to the table.
"Oh look, she's waking up. How do you feel honey?" Dr. Holiday took my pulse and wrote
on her clipboard.
"Fine…I guess. Where am I?"
"You're in Providence umm…."
"Candace, my name is Candace."
"Candace, Rex and Six told me what happened. I hope you don't mind, but I took a couple
blood samples. They're being analyzed right now." She explained. "Sorry about the cuffs
by the way, but from what our scanners told us you had an abnormal nanites count and
well, we just wanted to make sure nothing happened while you were unconscious." Just
then, a man with white hair came onto the screen.
"Holiday I need you to run some…and who is this exactly?" He asked, looking at me.
"This little chica is the cure we were talking about!" Rex said, as he walked in with
Six.
"Her name is Candace, Rex. And I'm not even sure she is the cure. I still have to check
her blood."
"Cure?" White Knight asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah!" Rex replied. "We were battling some EVOs and she used her blood to cure them.
Even I couldn't cure them."
"If that's true than she needs to be kept here. She could prove to be a valuable member
of the team." Wait what? I thought, member of the team?
"Um, excuse me. What do you mean by member?" But none of the other people in the room
could hear me.
"Knight, we can't just take her out of her own home. That's not right." Holiday
interjected.
"It doesn't matter what's right or not. All that matters is what's best for humanity."
"Excuse me…" I tried to speak again but no one heard me.
"Holiday we need to think about the greater good-" Six began.
"We are not doing anything of the sort!" Holiday argued.
"HEY!! I am TRYING to SPEAK!" I yelled. I actually hadn't meant to yell. It felt like
something was coming over me. Suddenly the scanner that I was attached to started to
beep loudly, and Holiday went immediately to the computer. My head had begun to ache and
I could feel my body heat rising, especially near my back.
"Holiday! What's happe-"
"AAAAAAAAGH!!!!" It was as if my back was on fire and my head was about to split open.
I tried to move but my limbs were still strapped down to the table.
" Holiday! What's happening!?" White Knight screamed from his computer.
"I don't know! Her nanites are just out of control! It's like she's transforming right
here on the table!" She continued to type on her computer, but it seemed to be
malfunctioning, at least, that was what they told me later, I was in too much pain to
notice now. "I need to use this to help control her nanites but it's not working!" Rex
and Six were next to her, but they didn't know what to do either. As I continued to
spasm on the table, Rex noticed the computer smoking and sparking.
"Umm, Doc? Is the computer supposed to do that?"
"Dammit! Uh, quick! You and Six get Candace free, we need to get out of here. Her nanites
have overloaded the computer! If we don't get out of here soon we're gonna be toast!" As
Rex and Six tried to untie me, I began to shake uncontrollably, as my transformation
evolved. However, as they dragged me out, the scanner which I was attacked too exploded,
pushing all of us (including Doc) into the air and landing hard into the wall. The pain
in my back had subsided now, but my vision was blurry, and I still had my headache. I
looked around and noticed that Rex, Six, and the Doc were lying on the floor
unconscious. I looked up at the computer and noticed that it was still smoking. It
seemed that it was only a matter of time before the computer would explode, no doubt
destroying us all. I got up, although it was very hard and walked to the machine.
"Ugh, what are…you doing?" Rex asked, as he wiped some blood from his head.
"I'm gonna try something," I replied, as I walked slowly to the computer.
"Wait…you're not stable yet…if you do anything, it might backfire." He said, as he tried
to pick himself up.
"I have to try." I said, as I arrived at the machine. I noticed that the keyboard was
completely destroyed. Well that's not gonna work, I thought, either way I wouldn't be
able to do anything. I don't know how to work computers. As I thought, I noticed some
blood dripping from my head. Suddenly an idea dropped in my head. I grabbed a piece of
rubble and scratched my hand, and then placed it on the computer. All of a sudden, a
rush came into my body and blood. It was hard to breathe as I preformed this task, and
my vision started to turn black. However, it was faster than I imagined, and soon, the
computer was fixed. I collapsed on the floor, just barley noticing that Six and Holiday
were getting up.
When I woke up again, I was in a hospital bed with bandages on me.
"Hey look, she's awake, again." Said Doctor Holiday as she checked my pulse.
"What…what happened?" I asked.
"Well, not much after you saved the day!"
"Saved the day?" I asked.
"Yes, with your blood, you were able to fix the machine, much like Rex." She smiled.
"You were really good out there kid." Six said, as he came into the room and rubbed my
hair.
"And not only did you save the day, you got some new things too." Rex claimed, as he too
walked in the room. Confused, I looked at the bandages on my back and took them off. As
I looked, I saw that I had some wings had grown on my back.
"Aw NEAT!!" I exclaimed as I jumped out of bed and ran to a mirror.
"So, we were thinking, would you like to join Providence, you would be a real help. Also
we could teach you to use your wings."
"I would love to!!!" I said, as I ran and hugged Holiday.
"Welcome to the family kid."
